Second announcement

Dear Colleague

The symposium includes papers covering all aspects of instabilities, particularly those relevant to fluid mechanics and heat and mass transfer. Topics range from basic research and development to applied and advanced technology, including novel experimental and computational techniques focusing on multiscale phenomena. Interdisciplinary papers that bridge theoretical, experimental, and computational approaches and papers that provide innovative concepts and analyses, or especially new insight into hydrodynamics and nonlinear instabilities are most welcome.

More information is available on the symposium web site
http://www.eng.tau.ac.il/conferences/Bifurcations-and-Instabilities.

We would like you to submit an extended abstract of up to 500 words on any of the topics covered by the symposium. Abstracts should be submitted no later than January 31, 2009.

The registration form can be found on the symposium website. It should be completed and returned to us by e-mail bifd2009@eng.tau.ac.il or by fax +972-3-6407334.

Further details about the conference are given below.

Invited speakers (with tentative titles of their lectures):

  1. Tom Mullin, University of Manchester, “Bifurcation phenomena in pipes and channels”
  1. Dwight Barkley, University of Warwick, “Direct optimal growth analysis for timesteppers”
  1. Fabian Waleffe, University of Wisconsin, “The coherence of turbulence: 3D unstable coherent states in canonical shear flows”

Special sessions

Colleagues who are willing to organize other special sessions in their field of expertise are welcome to contact one of co-chairpersons or just write us via the conference e-mail address.

Venue, accommodation and registration

The symposium will take place at the University of Nottingham’s main campus.  Details can be found at http://www.nottinghamconferences.co.uk/university-park.  Accommodation is available on campus, a short walk from the venue for the meeting.

Sincerely,
Co-Chairpersons:
Prof. Andrew Cliffe (University of Nottingham, e-mail: andrew.cliffe@nottingham.ac.uk)
Prof. Alexander Gelfgat (Tel Aviv University; e-mail: gelfgat@eng.tau.ac.il)
