Chair in Micromechanics of Composite Materials

Prof. Yakov Benveniste

The chair's activity is concerned with several topics in the micromechanics of composite materials:

  • Development of approximate micromechanics models for the prediction of the effective properties of composites.
  • Construction of microstructures for which exact expressions for their effective properties can be derived. Determination of exact relations which often exist between the effective moduli of composites with certain microgeometries.
  • Modeling of thin interphases in solids. Thin interphases occur in composite materials under the form of coatings or thin diffusion regions between its phases. Modeling of those interphases by interfaces without thickness and with appropriately designed interface conditions often facilitates the solution of problems containing them.
