You are invited to attend two lectures
By
Prof. Michael Keidar
Associate Professor, Director of GW Institute for Nanotechnology
George Washington University, Washington DC
On the subject:
Advanced Space Propulsion
Two seminars, Tel Aviv University, 3-4 June 2012
Seminars description:
Propulsion systems convert stored energy into kinetic energy to produce thrust. Since the energy involved is used to do work, the study of propulsion systems is based on concepts from thermodynamics and electromagnetics. We will cover both theoretical analyses of such systems as well as their practical engineering implementation.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, successful students will be able:
1. To demonstrate fundamental understanding of the advanced propulsion mechanisms
2. To demonstrate principles of electric propulsion system
June 3rd at 09:00: Lecture 1 (2 hours)
· Electric discharge fundamentals and fundamentals of plasma-wall interactions.
· Fundamentals of the electric propulsion.
June 4th at 09:00: Lecture 2 (2 hours)
· Electrostatic propulsion: ion thruster; FEEP
· Electrostatic/Electromagnetic Concepts: Hall thruster
· Electromagnetic propulsion: pulsed plasma thruster
· Micro-propulsion | | Location Room 011, Kitot Build. | | |
