CMT-TAU-Photonics represents a part of the Ph.D. thesises of Vladislav Shteeman, carried out in Tel Aviv University under the supervision of professor Amos A. Hardy.

How to download and run CMT-TAU-Photonics package ?

Step 1. Download CMT-TAU-Photonics.

Right click on the "Download" picture at the top of the page. From the pop-up menu choose the option "Save Target As".

Choose the location to save the rar-file in, e.x. Local Disk (C:). Note, that you can choose any other drive or directory, for your convenience.

Go to the dirve / directory, where the file CMT-TAU-Photonics.rar was saved (in our case it is drive C:\), and unzip the file.

Note, that CMT-TAU-Photonics.rar is password-protected. Please send an email to one of the authors, namely, Vladislav Shteeman, to get the password.

After unzipping, the new directory, "CMT-TAU-Photonics", will appear. Since you do not need more the original rar-file, you can delete it.

Step 2. Define the photonic array you wish to compute.

Go to the directory CMT-TAU-Photonics and open the file named "Wizard.pptx" (if you use Microsoft Office 2007) or "Wizard.pps" (if you use Microsoft Office 97-2003 or Open Office).

The Wizard will take you throught the process of definition of different parameters of photonic crystal (parameters of solitary waveguides, parameters of photonic lattice / superlattice etc).

After description of one or another parameter the Wizard will refer you to the Excel file "Input_data.xls". At the end of the Wizard, it will contain all the information about the photonic crystal. Afterwards this file will be loaded by Matlab at the start of the computations.

At each step of your definitions you should do the following:

1.double-click on the Excel file link.

2. input the requested values into the Excel file.

3. save the Excel file to the Hard Disk.

Step 3. Run Matlab computations.

Run Matlab. For example, in Windows XP it is "Start" --> "All Programs" --> "Matlab".

In the Matlab Main Window, change the Current Directory. To do this, press on the rectangle icon at the right of the "Current Directory" line. In the appeared frame "Browse for folder" choose the directory "CMT-TAU-Photonics". In our case it is "C:\CMT-TAU-Photonics".

In the Matlab Main Window, press on the "Folder" icon. In the appeared frame "Open" find CMT-TAU-Photonics.m file and double click on it.

This will open the file in Matlab Editor.

In the Matlab Editor, go to "Debug" --> "Run". This will start the computation.

All the output data is saved as Matlab file (***.mat) and Matlab figures (***.fig) in the subdirectory “Results” of the "CMT-TAU-photonics" directory. You can find the detailed description of the output data in the "Wizard.pps" or "Wizard.pptx" file.

Good luck with your computations !
