תאור הפרוייקט:

Computer simulations are conducted under predefined conditions and assumptions: material properties, external loads, and boundary conditions are assumed to have fixed values. However these assumptions have an associated degree of uncertainty. This project is concerned with the effects of these assumptions (for example: manufacturing tolerances), on the behavior of the device described in project 1. An engineer designing and analyzing such a product will have to address the following questions:

-        How much the results of the analysis affected by the uncertainties in the model (scatter of results)?

-        What is the probability that certain design criteria based on analysis results are no longer met (failure probability)?

-        Which input parameters are most important for the product reliability and quality (sensitivities)?

For example, the device we are going to analyze may serve as an accelerometer that is used to trigger an automobile airbag. Are we sure it won’t go off accidentally when we driving a bumpy road?. The output parameters we want to check are capacitance and electrostatic force. Consequently a full finite element model of the comb “tooth” will be constructed and analyzed.

The generated data can be used to quantify the reliability of the device and to achieve more robust design and improved quality. Results provide guidance for necessary design changes in the most efficient way.
