Short Biography David
Burshtein received the B.Sc. and Ph.D. (direct track) degrees in electrical engineering
in 1982 and 1987, respectively, from Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel.
During 1988-1989, he was a Research Staff Member in the Speech Recognition
Group of IBM, T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown
Heights, NY. In 1992, he joined the senior academic staff, Tel-Aviv
University, as a lecturer, and from 2007 he is full Professor of Electrical
Engineering. From 2011 to 2014, Prof. Burshtein served as an Associate Editor
for Coding Techniques for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. From
2011 to 2015 he was the head of the department of Electrical Engineering –
Systems in the School of Electrical Engineering, Tel-Aviv University. |

Research
Activities Information
theory, coding theory. Advanced coding techniques for communication, data
storage and source coding, codes with sparse graphical representation and
iterative decoding algorithms. Topics in machine learning and deep learning
and their applications to problems in communication and signal processing. |
