An optional pre-conference tour
of Jerusalem on
Sunday 26 Feb. is being offered. On this tour you will see the most
exciting sights of Jerusalem: the Mount of Olives ,
the Old City, Jaffa Gate and the Jewish
Quarter, the Cardo, the Western Wall, the Via Dolorosa. Drive to the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of the
city. Enter the Old City through Jaffa Gate and walk
through the Jewish Quarter to the recently excavated and restored Cardo,
the Roman Road. See the Jewish Wailing Wall –
the Kotel – and continue to the Christian Quarter. Walk along the Via
Dolorosa and visit the Church of the Holly Sepulchre. Proceed to the New City to
visit Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Holocaust victims. Tour will
depart from the Novotel Hotel
, and end at Ein Gedi on time for the conference welcome reception. See the Accommodation Form for registration
The planned social
program includes a welcoming reception on Sunday evening, 26 February, a
Dead Sea spa party on Monday evening, a Tuesday morning hike in one of the
adjacent nature preserves, a half-day excursion to Masada (the mountain
fortress of King Herod, and site of the last stand against the Roman
conquest) on Wednesday morning, and a banquet on Wednesday evening.
If there is
sufficient interest, an excursion for accompanying persons to
Quumram (where the Dead Sea Scrolls (including the oldest written biblical
text) were found and which formerly was a settlement of the ancient ascetic
Essene sect), and to a Dead Sea cosmetics factory will be arranged. In
addition, accompanying persons are cordially invited to participate in all
of the social events described above, and in conference coffee breaks.
