COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Gain knowledge about Digital Libraries; Visual Information Systems; Image representation, indexing and retrieval; Video archives; Medical image applications; Web applications of images/videos; Learn skills and background for building visual information systems.
 
 

COURSE TOPICS:

• Introduction to visual management systems: the concept of content-based retrieval, image & video databases, medical image archives.
• Visual features: color space, texture space, shape, spatial localization.
• Similarity/Distance measures.
• Feature space clustering and grouping
• Image segmentation
• Video indexing and manipulation: motion features, video partitioning: keyframes/cuts/shots
• Databases and indexing issues
• Medical application domains
• Emerging research directions
