Abstract
A report is given on some
informal visits to several laboratories doing research in microwave
dielectric heating in Europe during the
summer of 1965. Laboratories visited included the Royal Inst. of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden;
Swedish Inst. for Food Preservation Research, Gotenborg, Sweden; Norwegian
Defense Research Establishment, Kjeller, Norway; Philips Research Labs,
Eindhoven, Netherlands; Volvo Gmbh, Hamburg, West Germany; Pye Thermal
Bonders, Cambridge, England; and Forest Products Research Laboratory, Princes
Risborough, England. The principal applications in the laboratories visited
were in the areas of food processing, forest products, textiles, and plastic
board. A variety of moderate power (a few kw) installations exist that are
well established, and a considerable awareness of the possibilities that
exist for high power (hundreds of kw) systems was evident.
