Abstract The use of microwave energy for heating purposes has been widely investigated during the last twenty years. However, almost all the research work has been confined 'to batch-type ovens. Since the extrapolation of data from small ovens to large on-stream processing systems can be fundamentally fallacious, a need for continuous process high power industrial systems existed . A brief description of some of these systems and their development is given in this paper.
