Abstract

This paper discusses recent proposals for advanced modes of high speed transportation, many of which involve the use of a guideway formed by a cylindr4ical tube.  The possibility of accomplishing power transfer to a vehicle by using the guideway as a waveguide is discussed.  Power loss considerations indicate the advantages of using low microwave frequencies in the tube diameters necessary.  Mode filters and power-receiving structures are described in terms of the TE01 mode launched i8n an 18 ft. diameter guideway at a frequency of 230 MHz.
