Abstract

The plasma of a hydrogen stream maintained in a microwave field has been shown to be an excellent and reliable source of atomic hydrogen.  In addition, at low gas pressures the atomic hydrogen stream contains little if any sensible heat or enthalpy. Numerous accounts have been reported on the use of atomic hydrogen as a reactant with both inorganic and organic substances.  Often the intermediates or products from such reactions could not have been synthesized as effectively, if at all, by other means.
