Abstract The industrial use of microwave power in Japan is described and some examples of cooperative development programs with users which have proved successful are given, one being a roasting method for nuts and another, the boiling of silkworm cocoons. The former application has led to an entirely new nut product and the latter has resulted in an incomparably low product rejection rate.
