Abstract This paper discusses microwave tubes employed for the
generation of microwave power. The principles of operation, advantages and
limitations of each type will be considered. Drawings and photographs as well
as actual performance data on typical microwave tubes are included to
illustrate devices currently available. The Eimac-Varian 5KM1000SG 500-kW CW
S-band tube will be evaluated in some detail. A cautious look at the present
and future state-of-the-art will be presented in the concluding section. |
