Abstract

A short review of the current literature on the industrial use of microwave signals to record moisture content, surface quality, and other non-electrical parameters is given. The subject is closely related to microwave power processing for two reasons. First, the same basic absorption techniques are used to monitor microwave drying. Secondly, work on microwave non-contact measurement has provided most attenuation data used in the design of microwave processing systems. The overall subject of microwave non-contact measurement and control is of increasing general interest and practicability owing to the rapid development of low-voltage solid state microwave signal sources.
