Abstract A novel method of measurement and a new type of microwave thickness meter for continuous monitoring of metal tape thickness during the rolling process is described. Use is made of the properties of a quasiclosed waveguide resonator and a special type of self balancing microwave bridge. Laboratory and industrial results are presented.
