Abstract

Thermal runaway has been a major limitation in the application of microwave heating to a near-melt temperature heat treatment process for polymeric filaments. A technique which utilizes the inherent characteristics of the resonant cavity to counteract the runaway instability has been developed. Apparatus design and its performance in nylon monofilament heating will be discussed in this paper.
