Abstract

A wideband waveguide is defined as a waveguide which has a wide frequency separation between the dominant mode and the next higher order mode. This paper shows that, by inserting appropriate ridges in a rectangular waveguide, a separation factor of 3.3 between the dominant mode and the next higher order mode is achieved. The corresponding cut-off wavelength of the dominant mode is also increased to 7.6 times the width of the waveguide.
