Abstract

Two new applications of microwave power in food processing are considered. In both cases, extensive on site experimentation has provided satisfactory results, but the decision to install full-scale systems depends upon economic criteria presently being considered. The experimental installations are described and the operating results presented. Full-scale industrial systems for these and similar applications may require a hundred or even several hundreds of kilowatts of microwave power. A 50-kW, 2.45 GHz, high-efficiency klystron, developed by THOMSON-CSF, is expected to satisfy these requirements.
