Abstract

A 100 kW CW Y -junction circulator at 915 MHz has been developed. The circulator has three metal discs and two protruding metal cylinders in the conventional waveguide junction. A thin ferrite disc is attached to each of the flat surfaces of the metal discs and the cylinders. This means that the circulator has four equal unit junctions, and has the advantage of cooling the ferrite. The insertion loss and isolation of the circulator are 0.18 dB and 20 dB in a bandwidth of 10 MHz ground 915 MHz, respectively. The circulator is fairly small in size and light in weight and is useful for protecting the microwave source of a high power system from the reflected power. The design features and the experimental results of the circulator are presented.
