Abstract Liquid crystal (LC) films are used to observe microwave field intensity patterns in microwave oven cavities. Two dimensional color patterns on the LC film resembling the field intensity are shown. From these patterns one can obtain some qualitative information about the effect of the stirrer rotation and the load of the oven.
