Abstract

At present the Canadian Federal Government has no statutory requirements or recommendations with respect to maximum permissible levels (MPLs) of microwave and radiofrequency radiations to which either the general public or microwave workers may be exposed. The purpose of this paper is to present a rationale for adopting an MPL of 1 mW/cm² (10W/m²) for continuous human exposures. Higher exposure levels would be permitted for short durations. The bases for this MPL are outlined and comparisons are made with other national and international standards. Compliance with an MPL of 1 mW/cm² should not present major problems.
