Abstract

In many industrial applications of microwaves such as process control, detection or identification of objects and vehicles, power requirements are low due to short ranges and space availability. Standard microwave emitters consisting of a generator connected by a waveguide section to an antenna (most often a horn) are bulky and ill-suited to space-limited applications. The possibility of combining a generator and antenna in a single miniaturized package, of the size of a large sugar-cube was therefore investigated. The results obtained to date for a 9.6 GHz prototype are presented.
