Abstract The conventional perturbation method is used to obtain results for stored energy, power loss and quality factor of the metallic elliptical cylindrical resonant cavity. Numerical results for the quality factors of some low-order modes for various eccentricities are presented. These will assist in the selection of suitable modes for microwave heating or other applications.
