Abstract

This paper shows that the first order perturbation expression can be used without simplification to measure the permittivity of a material if the proportionality between the perturbation and the perturbating volume is well defined. To achieve a precision near 1%, cavities with large volume and high Q factor, thermally stabilized and with precise perturbing volume (precision better than 0.5%) must be used. We measured the permittivity of solutions of LiCl, NaCl and KCl as a function of concentration and temperature. Latex suspensions were also studied as a function of the nature and dimensions of particles at various temperatures.
