Abstract

A numerical procedure to calculate the time dependence of temperature profiles in multilayered plane media is described. Discretization of the continuous problem is accomplished by dividing each layer into a number of sublayers. A semi-discrete finite difference method is used to express the temperatures of the sublayers in closed form as a function of the microwave input. Applying the method in an iterative way allows treatment of the non-linear case, which arises when material permittivity is temperature dependent. Numerical results are given to illustrate the versatility of the developed computer program. The simulations are verified experimentally by use of a data acquisition system and a good agreement was found.
