Abstract

The detuning of a resonant microwave cavity by six alcohol and acetone vapors has been studied. All the alcohols show any such effect. Possible mechanisms causing hysteresis in the case of alcohols are discussed and extensions of the experiment are proposed. In addition, values of the real part of gas-phase dielectric permittivity at  microwave frequencies have been derived from the pressurization data.
