Abstract The advent of DBS (Direct Broadcasting Satellites) in the 12 GHz band for Europe has made the reduction of 5th harmonic emissions a major concern for microwave oven manufactures. This paper describes a new magnetron with a choke for reducing the 5th harmonic level of present microwave ovens. The paper also recommends oven design considerations that can reduce the 5th harmonic emissions. Key Words: Microwave oven, Magnetron, Electromagnetic interference.
