Abstract A description is made of an RF radiation meter which was designed specifically for monitoring heat sealing type equipment in accordance with the FDA guidance for radiofrequency heat sealers. The operating frequency range is 10 through 40 MHz. Both the electric and magnetic fields are measured in two full scale ranges of 50 and 5 mW/cm² equivalent power density. The sensors are essentially isotropic and provide excellent independence of the companion fields. Each responds only to its designated fields as is confirmed by performance tests in a TEM cell terminated to provide appropriate high and low impedance test fields. Lumped equivalent circuits are presented with discussion. Key words: Radiation monitor, dielectric sealers, radio frequency, leakage fields.
