Abstract A simplified model is presented which describes the interaction between the tank and applicator circuits of a radio frequency dielectric heater. The results obtained from the model enable the frequency and impedance data which may be measured using a network analyser to be readily interpreted. The combination of the model and experimental measurements offers a convenient technique for diagnostic and commissioning purposes.
