Abstract Most authors have suggested the use of varactors or Schottky diodes as components of microwave frequency doublers. In this paper we show that when high powers are needed the use of step recovery diodes (SRD) leads to excellent results, although such components are usually used for attenuators, modulators or, when really necessary, for high order harmonic multipliers (N>4). A rigorous time-domain analysis of the doubler characteristics is developed, providing the optimized circuits and giving the desired output power. The analysis may be extended to all frequencies, to any SRD and to any power level. To verify the present analysis, an example is described at 2,500 MHz. Key Words: Microwave power,
