Abstract This paper presents a microwave
non-destructive test (NDT) method for detection of inhomogeneities inside
non-metallic media, and a microprocessor-based instrumentation and control
system. The results, monitored on automobile tires, are presented. Each
portion of the tire is scanned by a microwave signal and the amplitude of the
transmitted signal is measured by a signal processing unit incorporating an
8085 microprocessor. The instrumentation system developed has an automatic
"stop "when a flaw/defect is detected. The method provides an
accurate monitoring of each segment of the tire. This method can also be
extended to other non-metallic objects which have some symmetry about an
axis. Key Words: Microwave measurements,
microwave non-destructive testing, microprocessor based instrumentation,
microwave applications. |
