Abstract The loading effects by dielectric slabs in microwave ovens are discussed and analyzed in this paper. A rigorous resonance condition, suitable for slabs with arbitrary complex dielectric constants, is formulated, and a simplified calculation method is introduced and demonstrated. Calculated results are discussed and compared with previously obtained data. The improved accuracy and simplicity of the presented calculation method should be beneficial in the computer simulation of microwave cooking processes.
