Abstract

Design and formulas and a design example of a synchrotron electromagnetic radiation-to-DC power convertor is presented. The convertor of the design example converts radiative electromagnetic power of onemegawatts/mē,1 THz to 30 THz of synchrotron radiation from a nuclear fusion reactor to utility electric power. The convertor puts out DC power of 830 kW with DC current of 1079 kA at DC voltage 0.77 V with 83% efficiency. The converter consists of an array of combination of antenna arrays and a distributed parameter power rectifier (DPPR).
