Abstract Several attempts at microwave calcination and sintering of the yttrium barium copper
oxide superconductor have been reported in the literature. Some of the findings of these reports are
explained in terms of the theory behind the interaction of microwaves with
conductive substances and the behaviour of this material at elevated
