Abstract

A method for investigating the rectilinear motion of an object inside a microwave cavity resonator is presented. The resonant mode to be used in the experiments is selected according to the results of computations based on perturbational theory. A practical procedure for finding the cavity response on the object's location along the cavity axis is described. The comparison of this response with that obtained during the actual motion yields the plot representing the dependence on time of the object's position. The proposed method is applied for studying the movement of a ball in free fall or in a viscous medium.
