Abstract The design of a cylindrical cavity applicator is described. The unit is evaluated for applications in chemical laboratories. Temperature monitoring and control is achieved through the use of a thermocouple and computer software. The applicator is useful for heating relatively large laboratory samples of a few hundred millimetres. Other advantages include the ability to agitate the material and add to and remove liquids from the reactor through access ports without having to open to reactor. Key Words: Microwaves, Cylindrical
