Abstract

A rectangular waveguide (WR-650) resonant cavity, operating in five  modes (n = 3,5,7,9 and 11) at frequencies between 1 and 2 GHz was used for pecan permittivity measurements.  Nearly spherical pecans with an ellipsoidal axes dimension ratio of 1.07 to 1.22 were measured.  Their permittivities were calculated using accurate expressions for a sphere and applying a shape correction procedure to provide pecan permittivity values for various moisture contents at 23 and 40°C.
