Abstract The validity of a
mathematical model of heat transfer in a fluidized bed has been carefully
studied when the bed was placed in a single mode rectangular cavity, or in a multimode
cavity. It has been proved that the hypothesis of the equality of the solid
and gas temperatures can be accepted in the stationary state and during
cooling, although heat transfer between the solid and gas is efficient. When
the bed is irradiated in the multimode cavity, the model can fail because the
electric field distribution depends on the movement of the solid particles of
the bed. Key Words: Fluidized bed, Heat transfer modeling, Catalyst irradiation, Multi and single mode
