Abstract

A novel technique for detecting the pollutants in water at microwave frequencies is presented. The technique is based on the measurement of complex permittivity of polluted water at microwave frequencies. The method employs a rectangular waveguide cavity. The changes in resonant frequencies and Q factors of the cavity are measured when a capillary tube filled with polluted water is inserted in the cavity. The dielectric behavior of artificially polluted water and polluted water collected from various industrial locations are analyzed.
