Abstract

Four different organic reactions, where specific activation by microwaves has been suggested, have been investigated. In each case, the claim that microwave radiation activates organic molecules and leads to increased reaction rates has been shown to be unfounded. All the increased rates of reaction in the microwave oven reactions can be attributed to the increased reaction temperature.
