Abstract

This paper covers the theory and evaluation of the rectifying and propagation properties of two non-linear transmission lines for utility power rectification. Electromagnetic fields are launched on these microstructures and rectification is simultaneously induced along their lengths. A current-generator elemental model was developed and implemented; the behavior of the model was compared to that of experimental findings for an Al-Si Schottky transmission line and for a Cd/Bi-Se transmission line. This paper establishes the first general investigation of such structures' rectifying behavior and provides the first indication that slow-wave mode operation is critical to the successful implementation of such devices.
