Abstract

The dielectric properties of the common alkali metal and alkali earth carbonates were measured as a function of temperature using a cavity perturbation apparatus. The results were compared and trends and differences noted. Some trends could be linked to the nature of the cation while other differences could be seen to be related to behavior individual to the compound. Comparison of all the dielectric property data enabled conclusions to be drawn about the polarization and loss mechanisms operating and the contribution of the carbonate anion to the dielectric behavior.
