Abstract

Four types of bauxite materials were fired in a variable frequency microwave furnace. The mullite, corundum and cristobalite phases which developed in the fired extrudates were quantitatively determined by X-ray diffractrometry. The mineralogical phase transformations which occurred during microwave heating are discussed with regard to reduced processing time and energy requirement.
