Abstract

An original microwave (MW) - ultraviolet (UV) combined reactor has been developed. The MW-UV reactor has been designed for both solvent and dry media reactions and can treat a range of throughputs from 10 to 100 grams. This study presents the rearrangement of o-aroyloxyacetophenone and the degradation of humic acid in aqueous solutions. The value of simultaneous irradiation by microwaves and ultraviolet light has been confirmed in both reactions. Microwave photochemistry is shown as a new technique for organic synthesis, waste water treatment, synthesis of polymers and food sterilization.
