Abstract

Microwave-assisted laundry (MAL) of cotton textiles was studied. For various stains, MAL showed better washing results in 4 minutes than the conventional method in 20 minutes. Ink was used as a stain on cotton textile to quantitatively study the MAL and non-MAL washing methods. The results showed that with MAL, a smaller amount of detergent was needed to achieve the same washing results as the conventional method. Optimum washing conditions could not be obtained under non-MAL washing conditions. Various factors including microwave power, irradiation time, and total washing time were further investigated. Greater power and longer irradiation time enhanced MAL washing effectiveness
