Abstract

Microwave ovens are here to stay. Their use, both domestically and commercially, is growing by leaps and bounds in the U.S.A.  In 1972 there were over 450,000 microwave ovens in homes in this country, representing a 0.7% saturation of the market.  This figure is expected to pass the 3,000,000 mark the next five years thus exceeding 5% saturation. It is important that the microwave manufacturers and the food industry work closely together to develop a line of consumer foods and packages suitable for microwave oven cooking, defrosting and reheating, with universal directions for preparation. In this way they can both help expand the market and reap the rewards of an expanding market.
