Abstract Strip-line has been proposed as suitable for
measurement heads in microwave moisture meters. The dependence of the insertion
loss of asymmetric strip-line on the dielectric properties of materials in
contact with it is discussed. It is shown that only the real part of the
complex permittivity has any effect on the measured insertion losses. It is
also shown that such effects as are measured are not due to reflection
