Abstract

The dielectric properties of paper and board at frequencies of 2.45 GHz and 27.12 MHz as measured by standard methods, are presented as a function of moisture content and orientation of the electric field relative to the paper sheet. Results obtained over a range of frequencies at one moisture content are also presented. The results are discussed in terms of the dominant loss mechanism (dipolar re-orientation and conduction) at the two frequencies and also from the viewpoint of using microwave or radio frequency heating for moisture levelling.
