Turbo codes are a relatively new concept in the realm of error
correcting
coding. The first results of their analysis and implementations
prove that the turbo coding schemes demonstrate impressively
high performance. The workshop is intended to introduce
and survey approaches to turbo coding, and discuss possible
applications and open problems. The lectures are addressed to
a general audience with background in communications; preliminary
knowledge of coding theory is not assumed.
Program:
- J.Snyders(TAU), Error correction coding: from block
codes to turbo codes
- N.Chayat(Technion), Conceptual introduction to turbo codes
- S.Litsyn(TAU), Low-density codes: prehistory of turbo codes
- H.Goldman(Tadiran, Holon), Turbo codes and modulation
- V.Kolesnik(Sankt-Peterburg), Multi-step decoding of block codes
- S.Shamai (Shitz)(Technion), Information theoretic approach to
parallel concatenated codes
- Z.Belsky, D.Raphaeli(TAU), Iterative decoding of a serial
concatenation of convolutional codes
